Sat Jun 17, 2006 at 06:00:18 AM PDT
Feeling discouraged about the passivity of the Senate? Enraged about the Orwellian "Justice" department? Today, some good news: Meet someone who's standing up for the constitution:

New Jersey Attorney General Zulima Farber as been targeted by Gonzales as Justice sues Jersey to keep telcos quiet
Left Fights Terrorism, Right Fights Left
Sun Jun 04, 2006 at 05:28:04 AM PDT
The right wing sites busy themselves scoring self-celebrated debate points (Today in
Instapundit's Wrap Up, you'll see a few wingnuts question the left's
Committment to Fighting Terrorism.)
Let's look at what we're working for. As the right-wing sites are busy fighting the left wing sites, here's a wrap-up of our concerns...
Perastroika Being Undone to Serve America's Interests
Sat Apr 01, 2006 at 04:40:50 AM PDT
Anna Politkovskay tells us that the reforms of "perestroika" are being undone, not
in spite of America's protests -- but to serve america's interests
'so that the special services can demonstrate how "effective" Russia is in fighting terrorism and so that President Vladimir Putin has something with which to impress the West.'
I cannot believe that people understand what Bush stands for, what America stands for, in the world now.

Timeline: Greenwald gets WaPo to Listen (w/poll)
Thu Jan 26, 2006 at 06:08:41 AM PDT
I'd like to take a moment to
show you the timeline as important news breaks out of the blogosphere to the 'real' media. It took
four days to reach the Washington Post. Let's see how long it takes to reach the floor of congress.
If your mind is stuck in blogmode, I am relating these events in the order in which they occurred, not last first. Just to cushion the shock for those of you living in the now -- I bring you back, all the way back to the beginning of this week...
In 2004, Condoleeza admitted classified info leaked by administration
Thu Jan 05, 2006 at 10:51:54 AM PDT
Remember Mohammed Naeem Noor Khan?
When you remember, you'll recall that, in 2004, Bush used classified secrets for political gain.

In 2004, we had a mole in Al Queda. The mole, pictured above, was making real progress against Al Queda. Then, suddenly his cover was blown:
Will REPUBLICANS Save the Republic? w/poll
Thu Dec 22, 2005 at 02:27:01 PM PDT
Let's talk about a few politicians that are showing some principle. Even some Republicans.

"I took an oath of office to the Constitution. I didn't take an oath of office to my party or to my president. ~Chuck Hagel"
It's time to honor those who have stood up for what's right. Immediately I think of Dean, Feingold, Conyers, Boxer and others now calling for impeachment.
But there are some 'good ones' on 'both sides of the aisle.' That's amazing, at a time when even some of our Democratic Senators haven't stood up to be counted yet...
Condi Matches Pretty Words with Actions
Sun Dec 11, 2005 at 08:55:24 AM PDT
[Note: Today,
skywriter's diary responds to Condi's speech and was published first. But we have a different take on it...]
When I noticed that Condoleezza Rice had penned an editorial for the Washington Post, I was afraid it was more hypocritical hand-waving and self-congratulatory pap. Instead I found an honest and refreshing examination of the real world, and the role of the Bush Administration in that world.
In The Promise of Democratic Peace Why Promoting Freedom Is the Only Realistic Path to Security, Condoleezza Rice begins:
... we must transcend the doctrines and debates of the past and transform volatile status quos that no longer serve our interests. What is needed is a realistic statecraft for a transformed world. [...]
In a groundbreaking editorial she outlined the actions that the Bush Administration will take to give these pretty words meaning...
Nowhere to Run, Forget about Face-Saving says War Expert
Wed Nov 30, 2005 at 03:25:49 AM PDT
I love the Guardian's headline today,
Nowhere to Run because it aptly describes how Bush so obviously feels about everything.
Nowhere to Run, from Fallujah to Baghdad
UPDATE: [I found this article originally at the excellent diary by ybruti, Bush, the Dupe; ybruti was the first to diary Crevald's article at DailyKos. Check out the discussion there. By the way I added a new tag, Me Too Diaries to this because I am writing up an essay about such and I want to point to that.]
Respected Historian, Creveld, "the only non-American author on the US Army's list of required reading for officers." thinks Bush might have made a bit of a mistake... From Forward. [Found at rawstory, and Guardian]
Tuesday November 29, 2005: There is a remarkable article in the latest issue of the American Jewish weekly, Forward. It calls for President Bush to be impeached and put on trial "for misleading the American people, and launching the most foolish war since Emperor Augustus in 9 BC sent his legions into Germany and lost them".
Doc Searls: Saving the Net

In
Saving the Net: How to Keep the Carriers from Flushing the Net Down the Tubes on November 16 in Linux Journal., Doc Searls, a respected advocate for open standards on the web, said something important: If we do not act now the net will be privatized. He says the free and open marketplace (enjoyed by both ideas and products) will disappear.
Skip to the end for Doc Searls' Action Items and my own poll.
Libby vs. Padilla: Catch-22
Thu Nov 03, 2005 at 07:16:36 PM PDT

BBC:
Former Cheney aide denies charges
"In pleading not guilty he has declared to the world that he is innocent," Mr Wells said.
"He has declared that he intends to fight the charges in the indictment and he has declared that he wants to clear his good name, and he wants a jury trial."
If the case does go to trial, the White House will have to brace itself for more political damage, says the BBC's Oliver Conway in Washington.
Mr Cheney and other top Bush administration officials could be summoned to testify.
There is another man who would like a trial, and he'd like to summon Cheney too.
I'm sure Mr. Libby will queue up politely behind Mr. Padilla.

ACTION: Challenge THIS ONE SENTENCE
Fri Sep 23, 2005 at 10:52:58 PM PDT
Froomkin Challenges Press Corp
to Challenge Bush on Defining Terms:
'Win,' 'Mission' and 'Terrorist'
-------------
Excerpt from White House Briefing by Dan Froomkin: Friday, September 23, 2005; 11:51 AM
Beginning on Page 2 of 5...
White House Briefing reader J. Harley McIlrath of Grinnell, Iowa, e-mailed me yesterday some insightful questions about just one sentence of Bush's speech.
In fact, his questions about that one sentence alone were more penetrating and important than any of the coverage I read of Bush's whole speech this morning.
Supreme Injustice: 3 Ways to Fight
Thu Sep 22, 2005 at 03:45:31 AM PDT
There has never been a successful conviction and removal of a Supreme Court Justice. Many fear a zoo if we started down that road. Two alternatives to impeachment are: jurisdiction splitting and constitutional amendments. What might seem the least practical, amending the constitution, is actually be best option right now.
Against Schadenfreude: Bush let idiots run FEMA -- but we let Bush run our country.
Tue Sep 20, 2005 at 11:35:12 PM PDT
I'd like to talk about last week.
I don't know how anybody got through last week without questioning everything.
