Military Bases and Missile Defenses: A Trivia Quiz

Sat May 03, 2008 at 11:15:26 AM PDT

Here is the background:

During the two terms of President Bush's administration, the US government installed many new US military bases in Middle Eastern countries including Afghanistan and Iraq, and erected new missile defense systems which span across many of the former Soviet-bloc states of "New Europe" which border on Russia.

Remember Martha

Thu Mar 27, 2008 at 10:14:25 AM PDT

For those whom the Remember Martha message resonates with, this message is gaining steam, and it carries virtually all the same powerful emotional effects as the phrase Remember 9/11 did for the rest of America.  Spitzer literally terrorized an American aristocracy when he was The Prosecutor, launching repeated guerilla attacks and surprise ambushes on the big bad boys, not just the small bad fry.  Justice was blind for a while, lashing out with her sword without utterly no regard to wealth, power, or station, and that was deemed definitely NOT OK by those who survived.

"I want to reiterate," she said. "It was not a warning."

Sat Mar 08, 2008 at 04:05:30 PM PDT

The warnings were going straight to President Bush each morning in his briefings by the CIA director, George Tenet, and in the presidential daily briefings. It would later be revealed by the 9/11 commission into the September 11 attacks that more than 40 presidential briefings presented to Bush from January 2001 through to September 10, 2001, included references to bin Laden.

So What's the Status on the Anthrax Investigation?

Wed Mar 05, 2008 at 11:52:51 AM PDT

As you recall, anthrax terrorism on Sep 18 and Oct 9, 2001 murdered four Americans who worked at the US Post Office at Hamilton New Jersey.  It also sickened hundreds.  It may have terrorized millions.

The USA PATRIOT Act vote may well have been affected.  The Orwellian-named USA PATRIOT Act passed, in anthrax-tinged circumstances, and became law that same week, as you know.

So what is the status of the federal investigation on the anthrax terrorism?

I have not heard anything.

And I lived, and still live, only six miles down the road from Hamilton.

Jonah's Lies Have a Conservative Bias

Thu Feb 28, 2008 at 10:57:59 AM PDT

If facts have a liberal bias, then lies have a conservative bias.

It turns out that it's true, on both counts.

On dispelling Jonah's lies about Hitler and liberals.

On revealing Hitler's deep hate for, and fear of, liberalism.  And Jonah's.  And Burke's.

McCain and the British Occupation of Iraq, 1917-1957.

Wed Feb 27, 2008 at 08:29:56 AM PDT

Where is the "global war" money going to come from for 95 more years at additional $1T per year?

To answer that, let's look back.  Where did the money come from the last time Iraq was occupied, from 1917 to 1957, by the British?

Answer:  It did not.

The Pause. Translation: 30 New Bases in M.E.

Fri Feb 22, 2008 at 05:31:09 AM PDT

Now may be the time to update the new American English dictionary again.

Definitions are changing fast.

General Patreus reports "reductions" are in progress during the current "pause" until the next US President is selected.

Wherein The Pause is the new strategy underway.   Wherein to pause means creating more military bases as fast as one possibly can, before the next President is elected.

Translation:  The next US Commander in Chief will be presiding over 30 more US military bases in the Middle East than his predecessor, President G.W. Bush.

META: Distributed Moderating is Needed to Govern Diaries

Thu Feb 21, 2008 at 02:35:40 PM PDT

Moderator capabilities are not sufficient at dailykos as it stands.  The good thing is, a conceptually simple remedy is available:  Distributed moderating.  The existing highly centralized moderating powers are not enough.  The mass of diarists need increased power compared to the commentors who visit their diaries, to actively govern and prevent their own diaries from being derailed and going off into the weeds or withdrawn completely by a minority of shit-head behavior at dailykos.

Remember 9/11.  It's Like Jello.

Mon Feb 18, 2008 at 06:47:38 AM PDT

The slogan Remember 9/11 is thinly veiled code for Will for Revenge.

Remember 911 is not to be read literally.  The bearers of this slogan dont know much about what happened.  Virtually all of these people don't know shit about 911.

Of course, that's not the point.  You can even ask them.  They will tell you so, if they say anything at all.  Verbalization of ideas might be too much to ask for.  An incredulous look, a roll of the eyeballs, is generally the most you'll get as often as not, if you dare to ask one of the slogan bearers what they know about 911, if you dare.  "I know enough" might really be all they know.  I would take them at their word, because cases exist where further inquiry as to their knowledge has resulted in attempts at verbal and physical intimidation and retaliatory behavior.

No, the point of Remember 911 is, an exhortation to peers to remember there's some revenge still due.  And no matter what revenge we have done already, there's always room for more revenge.  Revenge is the thirst that will not be slaked.

Poll: McCain's 100 Years for Revenge. But on Whos Money?

Sun Feb 10, 2008 at 02:21:47 PM PDT

McCain promised his violent followers in the ordinary masses, 100 years of revenge on Iraq, Afghanistan, plus maybe other as-yet unnamed middle eastern countries, if he gets elected.  To McCain's violent colleagues in the political elite, 100 years of military control of oil-exporting countries that are not cooperating with the US very well today, sounds like a good plan for success too.

But where is John McCain going to source the money and the blood for all that work?

100 Years for Revenge

Tue Feb 05, 2008 at 07:31:26 AM PDT

Remember 9/11.
We are victims on a colossal scale.
Never forget, not for 100 years, not for 1000 years.
Revenge is what Americans should all desire, rather, deserve.
Our revenge is not yet done, not for a long time yet.
The troops have a job to do.
100 years more in Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, whatever.
Who is the scape goat, is of secondary importance.
Saddam is executed, but one goat is not enough.
There are still many, many goats left to kill before our well-deserved lust for revenge is nearly satiated.

This is the widespread appeal of John McCain.  But also, McCain appeals to a certain group of more informed politically elite.
